“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9

The Deuteronomy book ends with the death of Moses and the nation of Israel looking up to Joshua his faithful aide as their new leader, and then the book of Joshua starts with God’s marching orders for him and his people.

In verses one through five the Lord told Joshua to go and take possession of the land; in verses six through eight God encouraged Joshua repeating twice to “be strong and courageous” and reminding him of God’s promise to his forefathers; In verse nine I think our Lord can see how scared Joshua was because He is already questioning him “Have I not Commanded you?” then he tells him for the third time “Be strong and courageous” adding “Do not be terrified, Do not be discouraged” ending His encouragement with the most comforting promise anybody can get “The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”.

“Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road-the desert road-that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” -Acts 8:26

A Pastor planting a seed, a teaching on “The Great Commission”, God speaking to my wife, and a lot of prayer and fasting got us to the point where we were looking for confirmation about God’s calling at this time in our lives, and so we decided to seek Godly advise for “in the multitude of counselors there is safety” Proverbs 11:14.
In my wife’s case it was one of our Pastor’s wife with whom she set-up a lunch appointment to tell her what was going on, however my wife did not tell her what was the topic she wanted to discuss; once my wife shared with Susan what was on her mind and that she was trying to get a confirmation about the possibility to go back to Colombia and share the gospel the answer was a shocking:

“Oh girl you guys are going”

God Speaks

2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV) | “16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. “

Even in the biblically recorded instances of God speaking, it is not always clear whether it was an audible voice, an inner voice, or a mental impression.

God does speak to His people today just like He did throughout history and He clearly did speak to my wife a few months ago when she was consistently asking Him to reveal to her what was His purpose for her at her current job or if it was time to move to another job; the answer came as an audible voice that said:

“I will not give you another job because I want you to prepare to go to Colombia”

Matthew 28:19
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the world "

We are all in a different place in our walk with the Lord. In my case it was a teaching by Pastor Tony Evans last year about this verse that served as a warning sign and lead me to question what was the next step that God had for my life, because even tough I had the blessing of having a beautiful family that loves Jesus, having all our material needs met, living in a beautiful city and fulfilling my God giving call with my job, the Holy Spirit was calling me to drastically change my life and my family's life in order to respond to the call of "the Great Commission ", and it was then that I started with my family a long adventure where determinedly we began to pray, fast, read the word and seek advice from brothers and sisters in the faith.

Get informed | Cartagena is a beautiful city in Colombia’s North coast where people from all over the world come to enjoy its history, architecture and natural beauty. However in recent years other kind of tourism started to take place in the form of sex tourism targeting underage needy children that are sold for next to nothing, pimps prey in the poverty, broken families and absence of hope that the youth live on. Short term mission trips from our church got involved with local ministries started by locals that came to Christ through the teachings of Pastor Bob, such ministries are helping to prevent, alleviate and rescue the most vulnerable of the community. However we realize that the only way to make a lasting difference in both victims and perpetrators is by pointing them to Christ and His redeeming love.

As a response to this tremendous need Santiago Amin and his family along with a team of missionaries will be traveling this summer to plant “Calvary Chapel Cartagena” to bring the good news of Jesus Christ.

    Calvary Chapel Cartagena

Santiago will serve as pastor for Calvary Chapel Cartegena, Colombia, which was established to disciple the new believers who come to faith during Calvary Chapel short term mission trips. He and his family – Paula, Maria Alejandra, Danielle, Maria Jose and Jacey – will bring the hope, salvation, restoration, and love found in Jesus Christ to those impacted by the horror of human trafficking. Their calling is to be used by God to restore the young victims and to strengthen area families as a means of eliminating this social plague.
